Should I go with Straight or Curved extensions?Updated 2 months ago

We have two versions of fence extensions that are designed to prevent jumping/climbing over fencing regardless of the construction or material.

1. Houdini Curved Dog Arm Extension: This system is made for dogs that both climb & jump, and can increase the height of your existing fence by up to 2 feet.

2. Straight Extension: This system is for dogs that only jump and have not learned to climb, and can increase the height of your existing fence by up to 3 feet.

If you look at how your dog is getting over the fence in a critical way, you will usually see 1 of 3 patterns:

  • Your dog hooks its front paws on the top of the fence either by jumping or leaning, then uses the back paws to gain a footing on your fence and push/kick themselves over. This is the most common way. If this is what is happening then the straight extension will generally be the best fit.
  • Your dog uses its forward momentum to push off the fence and project up and over the fence. You may have seen videos online of dogs scaling 10+ feet walls. They do it by climbing the wall either with forward momentum or by hooking paws in the fence and using it as a ladder. In these cases, our Houdini curved extension is the best fit.
  • Your dog just leaps right over the fence and clears it without touching it. In this case, the standard extension is generally a good fit.

The Houdini Extension has never been beaten by any dog since we invented the design. When in doubt, that is always the best option!
