Can the curved Houdini extensions be used on the 4.5 ft tall Freestanding Fence?Updated 11 days ago

Technically it is possible to add the curved Houdini-Proof extenders to the 4.5 ft tall Freestanding Fence.

The curved portion of the extender has a swaged (or "male") end that typically fits into the mounting bracket base when the system is being attached to an existing fence.

In order to add the curved top to a 4.5 ft tall Freestanding Fence, you have two primary options:

  1. The swaged ("male") end can be inserted into the top of the fence posts and either glued into place with epoxy, or set with a self-tapping metal screw.
  2. The full Houdini-Proof extension with mounting bracket base can be secured to the top of the fence posts using U-bolts.

However, in adding the extenders to the 4.5 ft tall fence, the main issue would be that the posts may not withstand the potential leverage that a large dog could apply to the extension. This is because the post is meant for a 4.5' fence. Adding the extender to it will make the post 1-2' taller and that added height will apply more torque to the post where it goes into the ground if a large force acts on the Houdini extension than that same large force would act on post at 4.5' tall.

Our 6' Freestanding Fence and our 7' Houdini (curved top) Freestanding Fence Systems both use larger diameter posts than the 4.5' tall Freestanding Fence, and would be recommended for medium to large-sized dogs.
